Great White North was a two minute skit on SCTV. Bob and Doug McKenzie
were introduced here years before the movie Strange Brew. The opening
scene of Strange Brew is set up just like Great White North.
That could be a tricky question. Just to make sure I have the right
answer, I'll give all three possible.
- Strange Brew is a cultural phenominon that still gains new fans year after
year. We hope it continues with the hopeful release of Strange Brew 2
- Strange Brew is a movie from 1983 based off the skit Great White North on
SCTV. It is loosly based off of the Shakespearean play Hamlet.
- the Strange Brew was a special mix of beer from the Elsinore Brewery that
along with special tones would allow Brewmeister Smith to take over the
world.
As I hear the story, there were plans to make a sequel called "Home
Brew" or "Strange Brew 2" starting in 1998 or 1999. Dave
Thomas ended up in a law suit over the funding of the project. Todd McFarlane
made a statement that he was going to be executive producer and finance the
project. But any further news has yet to be seen. McFarlane Toys has
released action figures of Bob and Doug
recently though. That could be a good sign.
It is true that the founder of Wendy has the same name as the actor that
plays Doug McKenzie, but they are not the same person.
